Half-minute homepage

How long should it take for someone to read your home page?

We aim for half a minute.

Here’s the thing. When most people arrive on your home page, their eyes want to move quickly. Their number one question is this: is your website worth their time?

They’re skimming and scanning past anything that requires them to stop for too long.

That’s why we opt for short, simple text in large font, hitting the most essential points.

The objective at this part of the browsing journey is to get them to your About page, Services page, and Portfolio page. Your home page is merely the opener.

Think of your home page as the front of your store. As people look, they are assessing whether you have what they want. Would you put signs with a lot of text to read? Or a few large signs with the main points?

Question:

How long does it take a new visitor to read your homepage?

Yian Q

Since 2015, I have helped over 100 interior designers, builders, builders, and architects – from those just starting out to award-winning designers published in Architectural Digest, Luxe, and more.

My process starts with what is already true within you, then brings it to life in a way that resonates with your ideal clients.

I work with designers because they’re awesome. I’m a member of IDS (Interior Design Society) and served on the board of the Virtual Chapter. Design events I’ve attended include High Point, Vegas Market, and BOLD Summit (Business of Luxury Design).

When I’m not creating brands and websites, you can find me listening to audiobooks and going on long speed walks with friends.

I’m from Seattle and now live in New York City with my wife, Gaby.
