What’s needed from me, the client?
You are an essential participant throughout the process. You can expect to spend 10-20 hours, depending on the scope of your project. Here are some things we’ll need from you.
Organize and send me photos of your work through Dropbox.
Complete a questionnaire
Collaborate with me by phone, email, and Trello (a simple project management app).
What platform is the website built on?
Your new website will be built on the dependable Squarespace platform. We use Squarespace for it’s clean aesthetic, it’s client-friendly backend experience, and great 24/7 customer service. Squarespace makes it possible for you to do essential website management independently.
How do website updates work?
We are happy to make updates to your website. We charge hourly for this. If you like, you will be able to do essential website management independently. We will create a series of custom training videos that shows how to do essential website updates, such as adding projects and updating text.
Who writes the website copy?
I (Yian) take pride in helping our clients with writing the essential website copy. I may ask you to write the first draft for certain parts that require knowledge of your business.
Is a logo needed to create a website?
Logo design is a core part of our branding services.
Can I keep my current domain name?
Absolutely. Your domain name will be pointed to your new website at the time of launch.
Will my new website look good on mobile phones and tablets?
One hundred percent. All our websites adjust to any device. Try it for yourself. Open any website in ourportfolio on your mobile phone.
What if I’m not tech-savvy?
Our clients have varying levels of technical ability. Rest assured, you will not need to learn any special coding. We will do the heavy lifting throughout. Note that you will need to use a computer to send us image files.
Will I be able to keep the SEO (search engine optimization) juice from my current website?
Yes. SEO juice is contained in the URLs of your website, not in the actual files of your old website. When we redesign your website, we will take care to use the same URLs are your current site in order to avoid losing any SEO juice.
Do you do SEO optimization for the site?
Yes, when we launch a website, we make the website SEO (search engine optimization) friendly using Squarespace’s SEO checklist. These basic best practices ensure that your website is tagged appropriately in all places. However, note that these tags alone are not sufficient to get you into Google's top organic search results. Google doesn't work that way. If it were as easy as tagging a site, then there would be plenty of un-proven websites showing up in top results. Google is a popularity contest, and it's not possible to fake one's way to the top.
To get into the Google's top organic search results, a meaningful SEO strategy includes creating regular content creation (via a blog) as well as establishing what are called "back-links" to your website from reputable websites.
However, note that SEO is not the only line of online marketing, and often it is not even the most productive line of online marketing for interior designers. Other lines of online marketing include building Google reviews for your Google business page (which helps you appear in the top listings of a Google Maps search (which actually appears just above Google's organic search results on the front page), creating meaningful organic content on social media, creating a paid Facebook/Instagram campaign, and creating a paid Google Adword campaign. All these can yield better "bang for your buck" than the investment necessary to actually get into Google's top organic search results.
So to answer your question: yes, we use SEO basic best practices, but no these basics alone are not sufficient to get into Google's top organic search results. After designing and launching your new website, we can help you create a sustainable SEO plan, and if you’d like we can recommend several SEO specialists to help you execute a comprehensive online strategy.
